How do Dirt Trapper Mats Work?

They work as the first point of contact for shoe cleaning inside of a building. Dirt trapper mats are designed to effectively trap dirt, mud and water from shoes. Fibres and materials used in the creation of dirt trapper mats, such as cotton, are made to hold onto dirt particles, preventing them from being passed through a home or building.

Cotton is referred to as hydrophilic, which in layman’s terms, means it attracts water rather than rejects it. Thanks to this water retention attribute, our dirt trapper mats also prevent slip hazards from being created through the limited spread of water within a building.

Overall, dirt trapper mats make for a great addition to a home or office building, keeping floors cleaner, safer, and more hygienic.

Dirt trapper door mats need to be super absorbent, enduring and stand up to regular deep cleaning, meaning that you should consider purchasing them from a specialist supplier. All of our dirt trapper door mats are manufactured with a bevelled rubber border to ensure ease of access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Benefits of Dirt Trapper Door Mats

  • Low Profile Design – our dirt trapper mats use the rubber-bevelled border to ensure they are safe and not a trip hazard, while they still allow access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
  • Resist Mud – trap moisture and debris below the walking surface.
  • Non-Slip – dirt trapper mats are built with a rubber backing preventing them from moving or slipping even when deployed on a hard floor.
  • Borders to contain dirt – the border design of the dirt trapper door mats contains dirt and moisture all in one place, protecting floors and making the mat easy to clean.
  • Easy to clean and maintain – machine washable options and simple to vacuum.

How to Clean a Dirt Trapper Mat

Over time a dirt trapper mat, when left ignored, can generate a large build up of grime and dirt. Whilst this is technically the mat doing its job, it can in fact impact the long term effectiveness of your dirt trapper mat. Fortunately there are a couple of methods you can use to clean the mat and get it trapping dirt effectively again.

Vacuuming the mat: For a quick clean of the dirt trapper mat, you can use a vacuum cleaner to pick up smaller pieces of dirt found in the fibres. For high-traffic areas, this may not be the most optimal cleaning method, as you try to find intervals to vacuum the mat. Remember to hoover not only the mat itself but the area surrounding it as well. Any dust or debris that has spread onto the floors can impede the non-slip attributes of our dirt trapper mats.

Running through a washing machine: During wetter times of the year, the issue may be less to do with dirt or dust and more to do with wet mud. Set on a colder setting, you can wash the mats in your washing machine to remove dirt and grime stuck to the mat fibres that a vacuum cleaner can’t quite reach. For best results in your business, it may be worth considering a second dirt trapper mat so that you may rotate between the two during any cleaning periods.

When using a washing machine, its important to avoid the use of conditioner or fabric softener. Whilst it can be great for the mat to have a nice scent, this can in fact impact the dirt trapping capabilities. You can also use an old pillowcase to roll the mat in whilst washing. The pillowcase will capture any loose lint of fabrics that would otherwise clog your machine.
